In the heart of Ontario, a newly completed residential building that will house about 300 residents needed a dependable, safe, and efficient way of electricity distribution. Looking at Canada’s extreme weather throughout the year and with rising demands of comfort and efficiency in urban housing, the power infrastructure had to be robust. It has to be robust enough to support not only everyday domestic needs but also communal systems such as elevators, emergency lightning, and HVAC systems.

Daelim Transformer Delivering a Community Centered Power Solution
To meet the electrical needs of residential buildings in a reliable, safe and efficient manner, Daelim was chosen to supply a 44kV 2MVA live front transformer. The transformer was designed and built to suit the demand of the dense residential environment and weather of Ontario Canada. Installed and commissioned in fall 2024 the transformer is now a main part of building power networks, helping to ensure safe, and consistent electricity access for every resident.
Safe, Quiet, and Built for Residential Settings
The residential transformer installation poses very different challenges than any other transformer installation respective to industry. Challenges like public safety, noise level, space constraints and ease of access are few critical considerations among many.
The chosen transformer addressed these by
- Ensuring safe, secure and temperature resistant housing locking systems that ensure the transformer and public both remain safe and there is no unauthorized access to electrical transformers.
- Very safe and environmentally friendly design with use of vegetable oil as transformer oil that has a very high ignition point and offers excellent insulation.
- The transformer is designed and developed in a manner that is in compliance with CSA C88 & CSA C227.5 standards.
- The transformer was designed with special focus on convenience during maintenance, helping the local response team to quickly access the transformer and do maintenance without disturbing residents.
Fast Deployment with Zero Downtime
Due to residential application, time was very crucial in this project. The transformer was manufactured, tested, delivered and installed in just a few short months. Installation was done with minimum disruption in concern and surrounding neighborhood. There were no delays in the project or move in dates of the new tenants. Since going live in October 2024 the system has operated without interruption and with zero downtime.
Outcome: Everyday Reliability
Today our transformer is behind the scene asset of that residential apartment complex. Quietly ensuring that daily comfort and convenience of 300 people is delivered efficiently and reliably. It powers all essential home appliances, keeps the elevator running, and also supports the energy efficient heating and cooling system of the entire building. All this is done with minimal maintenance and zero visible impact on the surrounding area.
Powering the Future of Urban Living
With every growing world population, our dependence on electricity for even the simplest and smallest of day to day tasks, governments moving toward energy efficient systems, and international laws and standards that enforce environment friendly and safe designs. This project in a high density residential area demonstrates how well engineered solutions that are designed for the people first can integrate seamlessly into everyday life enabling smart growth without compromising reliability and safety.
