The 1 MVA pad-mounted transformer utilized in a utility project in Ontario, Canada, features a high voltage of 44 kV. This voltage level is relatively high for pad-mounted transformers, as they typically do not exceed 34.5 kV. The 44 kV 1 MVA pad mount transformer was completed by Daelim Transformer in July 2024. The Canadian customer received the transformer in August, and it was successfully installed and energized by the end of that month.
This transformer incorporates several safety and maintenance features. It is designed for installation on the side of the road and connects to a 44 kV grid line. It features a 46 kV live front high-voltage bushing with four holes, positioned in the front compartment for enhanced safety due to the high voltage. Additionally, three lightning arresters are installed in the front compartment. The low-voltage side bushing is mounted on the side of the oil tank wall, with external gauges, and a drain and sample valve. These external features allow operators to test the oil and inspect gauges without interacting with the high or low voltage bushings in the main enclosure, thereby increasing safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Our tamper-proof design ensures maximum security, with externally mounted gauges and the drain and sample valve housed in a locked cabinet. Reduce the possibility of theft of transformer accessories and insulating oil. The transformer is also equipped with a pressure relief device and a protective cover on the tank top for added safety.
Furthermore, this transformer features a versatile five-position load tap changer on the high-voltage side, with the ability to adjust the nominal voltage of 44 kV up to 45,100 V and 46,200 V, or down to 42,900 V and 41,800 V. It incorporates a high-voltage Delta connection and a low-voltage Wye connection, with a connection group of Dyn1. Adhering to CSA C88 and CSA C227.5 standards, this transformer represents the pinnacle of engineering excellence.
