What is a 25 kVA Transformer?

A 25 kVA transformer is a type of transformer with a rating of 25,000 volt-amperes. It is used to convert between two different voltage levels, typically between 240 volts and 480 volts.

25 kVA transformers are available in both single-phase and three-phase versions. A 25kVA industrial power transformer features a primary voltage (single phase) of 7,620/13,200V grounded Wye and a secondary voltage of (single phase) 120/240V.

The Daelim single-phase pad-mounted and pole-mounted transformers offer powerful, efficient, and reliable power distribution for public or other outdoor locations. In addition, the low operating and maintenance costs make them ideal for powering smaller loads such as residential homes and small commercial establishments.

The power distribution of a 25kVA transformer system is designed for pole mount installations and is mainly used in overhead power distribution networks. 25 kVA pad-mounted transformers supply electricity to customers with a higher demand for power than what is available from the distribution grid.

What Are the Different Types of 25 kVA Transformers?

25kva transformer has three phase and single phase.

For the 25kva transformer single phase, the input is single-phase alternating current, and the output is single-phase alternating current. There are mainly two types: pad mounted and pole mounted. The relevant details will be discussed in detail below.

The 25 kVA transformer 3 phase is different from the single phase, the input is a three-phase symmetrical alternating current, and the output is also a three-phase symmetrical alternating current. There are mainly oil-immersed and dry-type transformers.

There are two main types of 25 kVA transformers of Daelim: pad-mounted and pole-mounted.

How To Calculate Transformer Load Capacity?

Calculating 25 kVA transformer load capacity will depend on the type of transformer you're using there are different calculations for single or three-phase transformers, which are based on ampere information and winding voltage.

Transformer load capacity is often calculated using the transformer rating as a percentage of the maximum load the transformer can handle. The calculation is often based on Primary or Secondary Winding Voltage and amperage details.

The calculation offers three different methods of determining the transformer load capacity. To determine kVA load capacity, you will need two pieces of information about your transformer:

V, which refers to the load line-to-line voltage.

I, which refers to the maximum load phase current.

Once you determine these numbers, you can then apply them to the two formulas for calculating the 25 kVA transformer load capacity:

25 kVA Single-phase transformers: (V x I) / 1,000 = kVA

25 kVA Three-phase transformers: (V x I x 1.732) / 1,000, where 1.732 is the square root of 3

What are the Different Types of 100 kVA Transformers?

There are eight types of 100kVA transformers:

Step Up/Step Down Transformer

This type of 100kVA transformer is based on the number of turns in the primary and secondary windings. If the number of turns in the secondary coil is more than that in the primary, it is called a step-up transformer. On the other hand, if the number of turns in the primary is more than that in the secondary, it is called a step-down transformer.

Instrument Transformer

Also known as isolation transformers, instrument transformers convert current and voltage levels from one value to another while maintaining the phase relationship between the primary and secondary windings. The common use of instrument transformers is to isolate measuring or control instruments from the high voltage circuits.

Current Transformer

Current transformers change the high primary current values to lower secondary current values while maintaining a constant voltage across the primary and secondary windings. Current transformers are commonly used in conjunction with ammeters to measure high currents.

Potential Transformer

A potential transformer is the opposite of a current transformer. Also called a voltage transformer changes high primary voltage values to lower secondary voltage values while maintaining a constant current flow through the primary and secondary windings. Potential transformers are used with voltmeters to measure high voltages.

Single-Phase Transformer

As the name suggests, single-phase transformers have a single primary and secondary winding. These types of 100kVA transformers are used to supply power in domestic and commercial applications where the load current is not too high.

Three-Phase Transformer

Three-phase transformers have three primaries and three secondary windings wound around a common iron core. These transformers supply power in industrial applications where the load current is high. In addition, three-phase transformers can supply power to single-phase loads by connecting the secondary windings in series.

How Many Houses Can a 25 kVA Transformer Handle?

The number of houses that a 25 kVA transformer can handle depends on the following factors:

The load on each house: This is determined by the number and type of appliances used in each house. For example, a house with multiple air conditioners will have a higher load than a house with only a few electrical appliances.

The voltage level: The higher the voltage, the fewer houses a 25 kVA transformer can handle. For example, a 25 kVA transformer supplying 240 volts can handle fewer houses than one supplying power at 120 volts.

The wiring: The type of wiring used in the houses also affects the number of houses a 25kVA transformer can handle. For example, if the houses are connected to the transformer via underground cables, the 25kVA transformer can handle fewer houses than if the houses were connected via overhead wires.

For instance, in a metropolitan area, where the load and voltage level on each house is relatively high, a 25kVA transformer can handle approximately six (6) or seven (7) standard houses. But in a rural area, where the load and voltage level on each house is relatively low, a 25 kVA transformer can handle ten (10) or more houses.

250kVA Transformer Load Capacity

A 250kVA transformer can supply power to a load of up to 250 kVA (kilovolt-amps). This is equivalent to a load of approximately 601 amps at 240 volts and 200 kW (kilowatts) or 1,000 amps at 150kW.

A 250kVA transformer can also supply power to a single-phase load of up to 1,250 amps or a three-phase load of up to 830 amps. If you use a 250kVA transformer to supply power to a three-phase load, you'll need to connect the secondary windings in series.

How Much Oil Do You Need in a 25 kVA transformer?

The amount of oil required in a 25 kVA transformer depends on the type of transformer and the number of windings. For example, a 25kVA transformer with two windings will require less oil than one with four windings.

However, on average, the oil volume that you'll need for a 25 kVA transformer single phase is around 98L (liters). The 25 kVA transformer oil capacity usually accounts for 20-30% of the total transformer weight. Therefore, it's always best to consult with the manufacturer of your 25 kVA transformer to determine the specific amount of oil you'll need. At the same time, you can also ask about the best oil type.

Some of the most common oils in 25kVA transformers include transformer oil, mineral oil, and silicone oil.
