What are the types of prefabricated substation?

The structure of the prefabricated substation includes three main parts: high-voltage switchgear, transformers, and low-voltage power distribution equipment.


There are two main types: one is an integrated substation(pad mounted transformer); the other is a combined substation(compact transformer).


The integrated type refers to the transformer as the main body, and the fuses and load switches are installed in the transformer tank to form an integrated layout. The combined type means that the high and low voltage and the transformer are each in one room to form a "me" or "pin" type arrangement.



What is pad mounted transformer?

Pad mounted transformer is an integrated transformer. The pad mounted transformer is to put the transformer body, high-voltage load switch, back fuse, tap changer, and other components together in the transformer tank to form a common box arrangement. Therefore, the volume is greatly reduced, the structure is more compact, and the fully insulated and fully sealed structure is safe and reliable, easy to install and operate, and maintenance-free.

The pad mounted transformers are divided into two parts, front and rear, the front part is the high and low voltage front compartment, the high voltage compartment includes plug-in fuse, high voltage bushing, high voltage terminal hanger, load switch, pressure regulating switch; low voltage compartment includes nameplate, oil filling valve, Low voltage terminal, oil level gauge, oil temperature gauge, pressure relief valve, grounding copper bar. The rear part is the transformer tank and radiator. The fuel tank is a fully sealed structure.


High Voltage Bushing

The high-voltage terminal of the transformer is equipped with a single-pass or double-pass high-voltage bushing, which is used to connect the elbow-type cable plug and the elbow-type fully insulated arrester. Because the electrified parts are placed in the fuel tank, all are connected, so the surface is not electrified, which can ensure personal safety. In an emergency, the cable plug can be plugged and unplugged while the transformer is running, so the cable plug can also function as a load switch.


On the high-voltage bulkhead of the front cabin, a hanger is welded near the high-voltage bushing, which is used to fix the configurable support-type insulating bushing joint. When the cable plug is unplugged, it can be inserted into the support immediately. on the socket connector.


There are three high-voltage bushings in the radial feed transformer, which are used to connect arresters, live displays, incoming cable heads, etc. There are six high-voltage bushings in the loop feed transformer, and the cables can not only be connected in but also looped out. When there are two or more sets of transformers in the same line, and the transformers are separated by more than 50 meters, the ring cage transformer does not need to start wiring from the beginning of the line, but from the nearest transformer, which effectively saves cables length, saving performance and cost.

Pad mounted transformer adopts two kinds of fuses, one is Bay-O-Net Fuse and the other is the back-type fuse (in the oil tank), two types of fuses are connected in series to protect the transformer in sections. This form of protection is simple, effective, convenient, and economical


The Bay-O-Net Fuse is responsible for breaking the fault current in a small range. In the case of transformer overload or high oil temperature, the fuse is mainly used to protect the transformer.


The back fuse is mainly responsible for breaking the fault current in a wide range, mainly the short-circuit fault on the high-voltage side inside the transformer. When the transformer fails, it will quickly protect the high-voltage line.

Therefore, the fuse core of the back fuse is larger than the fuse core of the bay-o-net fuse.


Load Break Switch

The load switch of the pad mounted transformer is an oil-immersed three-phase linkage switch, which has the function of spring operation structure, and can complete the load breaking and closing operations. The load switch has two types: two positions and four positions. Two positions are used for terminal type, four positions are used for ring network type or for dual power supply mode. However, the four-position switch can also be replaced by three two-position switches, which are required by some of our customers.


The load switch is opened and closed with an insulated operating rod about two meters long.


On the basis of simplifying the high-voltage and low-voltage control and protection devices, the pad mounted transformer installs the high-voltage and low-voltage power distribution devices together with the main body of the transformer into the transformer tank to make it a whole. This form of padmounted transformer is smaller in volume, and its volume is similar to that of an ordinary oil-immersed transformer of the same capacity.

What is a compact transformer?compact transformer

The compact transformer is a combined transformer. It is mainly composed of high-voltage switchgear, transformers, and low voltage power distribution equipment. The combination means that each of these three parts is a room and forms a "mu" or "pin" type arrangement.

High-voltage switchgear, transformers, and low-voltage power distribution equipment can be flexibly arranged and combined according to needs. The high-voltage side is connected with cables or copper-plated aluminum bars, and the low-voltage side is connected with copper-plated or aluminum bars.

The "mu" type is more convenient for wiring than the "pin" type, so most of them use the "mu" type layout, but the "pin" type structure is more compact, especially when multiple transformers are arranged in the transformer room."Pin" font arrangement is more economical which saves space and copper bar.

Structure Of Compact Transformer

1. High voltage side:

The high-voltage side mainly includes high-voltage incoming cabinet, high-voltage metering cabinet, and high-voltage outgoing cabinet.

High-voltage incoming line cabinet: circuit breaker with fuse protection function, grounding switch, electric opening and closing button, high-voltage incoming call display, etc.

High-voltage metering cabinet: equipped with watt-hour meter to link with the power supply bureau.

High-voltage outlet cabinet: used to distribute and transmit electrical energy

Below 800kva, use load switch FN12 to protect the high voltage side.

800kva and above should be equipped with VIC circuit breaker to protect the high voltage side.

3. Low voltage side:

According to customer requirements: low-voltage metering cabinets, incoming cabinets, outgoing cabinets, capacitor compensation cabinets, maintenance channels, etc.

What Is The Difference Between Pad Mounted Transformer And Compact Transformer?

1. The difference between the Pad-mounted transformer and the Compact transformer is in the high-voltage part. The components of the high-voltage part of the pad-mounted transformer are placed in the transformer tank, and the high-voltage part of the compact transformer needs to be set up with a separate high-voltage cabinet.


2. There are two types of high-voltage wiring in the padmounted transformer, the ring network or the terminal power supply. On the other hand, the compact transformer consists of an independent high-voltage unit (high-voltage cabinet), and the form can be customized according to customer requirements.


3. Since compact transformer each functional unit is independent, each unit (high voltage, transformer, low voltage) can be customized according to user requirements. Due to the limitation of high pressure and its small size, the function of the pad mounted transformer is not as flexible as that of the compact transformer. But the padmounted transformer is much cheaper than the compact transformer.


4. The transformer in the padmout transformer is an oil transformer, and the transformer in the compact transformer can be either an oil-filled transformer or a dry-type transformer.


5. The volume of the pad-mounted transformer is small, only about one-third of the volume of the compact transformer of the same capacity.
